Packing for Ecuador

·

Your flights are booked, your travel documents are in order, your itinerary is confirmed—now comes the essential task of packing for an extraordinary journey through Équateur. But what exactly should you bring?

Essential items for any trip

  • Passport and photocopies
  • Photocopy of insurance certificate/assistance contract
  • Vaccination record and medical information
  • Currency and credit card
  • Camera
  • Universal adapter (US-style flat pins)
  • Flashlight (headlamp ideal) and spare batteries
  • Sun protection (sunglasses with case, sunscreen SPF 30 minimum, cap/hat)
  • Personal pharmacy (see below)
  • Tissues/toilet paper
  • Toiletries and towel (microfibre type)
  • Protective plastic bag (for clothes, documents, etc.)
  • Swimsuit (for pools in Baños)
  • A 30L/40L backpack: this capacity allows you to carry everything needed for a full day of travel—rain jacket, warm layer, small medical kit, water bottles, snacks, and part of a picnic if needed.

Medical kit essentials

  • Pain reliever
  • Anti-diarrheal medication
  • After-sun cream/balm
  • Broad-spectrum antibiotic (paracetamol, aspirin, etc.)
  • Wound disinfectant (like Hexomédine)
  • Assorted bandages, medical tape, scissors, blister plasters
  • Hand sanitiser gel
  • Sunscreen
  • Mosquito repellent spray
  • Emergency blanket

For the Amazon region

  • Long-sleeved, lightweight clothing (to protect against mosquitoes). Avoid black, which attracts them more
  • Mosquito repellent (Tropic brand or similar) and anti-itch cream
  • Swimsuit
  • Poncho or rain jacket
  • Binoculars

Trekking gear

  • Travel bag that's easy to carry for your belongings
  • Lightweight hiking pants (avoid shorts)
  • Breathable t-shirts
  • Hiking boots (preferably high-top for better ankle support) and gaiters
  • A pair of comfortable shoes for the evening
  • Waterproof jacket (high-resistance)
  • Trekking poles
  • Spare shoelace/cord
  • Multi-tool/Swiss Army knife
  • Water bottle

Good to know: on every circuit with Aventure Ecuador, you'll have unlimited potable water to refill your bottle throughout your stay. We also provide several snacks daily—granola bars, fruit paste, fresh fruit—for trekking days.
